Questions and answers about the Vectra WB360 Total Body Skin Imaging Scan at Darling Downs Melanoma Clinic

The Vectra WB360 is a cutting-edge 3D imaging system that uses 92 high-definition cameras to capture your entire skin surface in seconds. It creates a precise 3D map of your body, documenting every mole and spot so even the smallest changes can be detected over time.

Best of all, no referral is required! You can book directly via Health Engine, online through our website or by calling 0492 970 370.

Most melanomas are detected as new or changing moles. The Vectra system helps identify these subtle changes early — often before they’re visible to the naked eye — allowing for earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment.

You may benefit from a scan if you:

  • Have many or unusual moles
  • Have fair skin or a history of sunburn
  • Have a personal or family history of melanoma
  • Spend a lot of time outdoors
  • Want a baseline record of your skin for future comparison

Queensland is known as the skin cancer capital of the world due to its high UV exposure and outdoor lifestyle. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Australia, and melanoma is the leading cause of cancer death in young Australians aged 15–39.

Regular skin checks and total body imaging are essential for catching melanoma early, when treatment is most successful.

At Darling Downs Melanoma Clinic, we’re passionate about helping Queenslanders take a proactive approach to their skin health using the latest imaging technology.

You’ll stand on a platform while 92 cameras capture high-resolution images of your skin from head to toe. It’s quick, painless, non-invasive, and uses no radiation — only visible light. You’ll be in your underwear (similar to a standard medical exam), and the scan itself takes less than a minute.

Allow around 45 minutes for your appointment, including setup, image capture, and initial review

Yes. The Vectra WB360 uses only visible light (similar to the flash on your phone) — no contact, no radiation, and no health risk

  • Avoid makeup, fake tan, and heavy moisturisers
  • Remove jewellery
  • Wear plain underwear that contrasts with your skin tone. The more skin you show, the more moles we can map! Our team at DDMC will guide you on the day to ensure the best image quality.

Your 3D images are securely stored and reviewed by our trained melanography doctors. If anything suspicious is identified, dermoscopic imaging can be arranged for further assessment and referral back to your GP or dermatologist for any recommended biopsies or excisions. The doctors at DDMC are looking forward to making this service available soon

Most patients start with a baseline scan, then return every 6–12 months depending on their risk factors and medical advice.

The Vectra WB360 scan starts from $350. (Currently, there is no Medicare rebate available. Additional imaging or procedures may incur extra costs.)

All scans are performed by our qualified melanography doctors: Dr Damian Fry and Dr Oli Norton, who are experienced in skin imaging and early melanoma detection.
