Dr Damian Fry

Dr Fry is a General Surgeon based in Toowoomba, with a particular interest in melanoma and skin cancer care. At Darling Downs Melanoma Clinic, he brings together his surgical expertise and longstanding commitment to rural and regional healthcare.

Originally from Orange in regional New South Wales, Dr Fry’s career began in the Australian Army, including service at Cabarlah and a peacekeeping deployment in the Pacific. He subsequently trained as a registered nurse, working in emergency and operating theatre settings before pursuing medicine. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in General Surgery in 2019.

Dr Fry developed his interest in melanoma during a dedicated placement with the Princess Alexandra Hospital Melanoma Unit. He went on to establish a Melanoma Unit at Toowoomba Hospital and maintains close professional connections with the team in Brisbane.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Fry is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and is actively involved in teaching medical students and surgical trainees. His contributions to national surgical education and rural training reflect his commitment to strengthening access to specialist care for regional communities.

At Darling Downs Melanoma Clinic, Dr Fry works with a dedicated team to provide skin cancer assessment, surveillance and treatment, supported by advanced 3D skin imaging technology.
